Inn Kawashima - Kyoto

The experience was super cozy once we warmed up the room! Plus, the cute open-air bathroom with a Japanese garden was charming, but man, it was chilly at night 😅

Traditional hotel in a shopping area just off the city center and subway station, Nishiki market, and other places and the subway and popular areas like Gion and the food market...

All good - we really enjoyed this traditional hotel - the food was DELIGHTFUL and the staff were friendly and polite. The accommodation had a central location close to big shopping streets.

Quaint courtyard garden offered a peaceful retreat.

Everything was simply good! There were huge and neat rooms with the communal bathroom and view of the garden, for instance. The staff was really helpful and caring providing assistance. Location: the hotel was so close to tourist attractions, the subway and popular areas like Gion and the food market, and restaurants. In the evening we visited Shunmi Shunsai Taichi, set close to the property.

Could use more cleanliness in common areas!!! The refrigerator had dust, and the futon had a stain. Charging for breakfast feels off-putting given the price!!!

What you'll love and hate

The serene courtyard garden provided a calming oasis, and the futons were unbelievably cozy, guaranteeing restful nights. Daily towel replacements kept everything feeling fresh and clean.

Communal bathrooms might be less suitable for those seeking privacy, and be warned-the thin walls meant I could hear other guests' murmurs quite clearly, which disrupted my tranquility at times.

The owner was friendly and always available to help. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated in traditional style. I appreciated the cleanliness throughout the inn and the serene courtyard garden.

The inn's open-air bathroom was charming-if freezing cold. Communal amenities were a hassle with only one shower, and the staff barely acknowledged me. I can't believe there was no welcome gift or complimentary breakfast, shocking. I almost thought of a nice review, until i realized this place was just for regular guests, not VIPs like me!

The room was beautifully decorated and warmed up quickly. Awesome location, just a short walk to the subway and plenty of restaurants around. I really enjoyed the delicious breakfast served in my room. The owner was super accommodating!

I stayed for 2 nights in a Japanese-Style Single Room with Shared Bathroom, and it was such a good experience! The location was close to Gion, and the room was impeccably clean and beautifully decorated in traditional style. I loved how the owner provided green tea in my room upon arrival, the perfect touch after a long day of sightseeing.

The location was nice. The room was a great size for our family, and we loved the little touches like daily tea and snacks.

My wife says that a more private bathroom would be great for families.

Loved the traditional architecture and the cozy atmosphere! The shared bathroom even had a cute Japanese garden. We really enjoyed drinking green tea in the room after a long day.
